Guam Map

Guam is a tiny Micronesia island, situated 3,800 miles west of Hawaii and 1,500 miles south of Japan. As seen on the Guam map it is rimmed with pristine beaches. The island has a wide selection of beautiful hotels set against a back drop of rippling volcanic hills. These traits can not be seen in the Guam map and need to be appreciated by visiting the island in person.

If you are lucky enough to stay in one of the Guam hotels you will find Guam an inviting tropical playground, with clear waters which welcome swimmers & wind surfers, and coral reefs that snorkelers & SCUBA divers will enjoy exploring. Golfers have a chance to play a different course every day of the week and hikers can find trails of even greater variety. Its accommodation, dining and shopping rival the best in the world.

Chamorro people
The Chamorro people arrived on Guam from the Malay Peninsula around 3000 BC, and they occupied the island alone until Ferdinand Magellan landed there in 1521. They have survived invasions by the Spanish, the Japanese and the Americans, managing to retain their cultural identity, including language, cuisine and customs, and they still comprise 43 per cent of the island's population.

Oceans
On the Guam map you can see that the island's west coast looks out to the Philippine sea while the opposite coast faces the North Pacific Ocean.

Fort Santo Angel
On the Guam map, perched on a rock on the Northwest tip of Umatac Bay is Fort Santo Angel. It is one of four forts in the Umatac area and the oldest fort still in existence today. Fort Santo Angel served more as a watchtower than an armed fortification and today only some of the walls remain. A third and smaller lookout, San Jose, was constructed closer to the water's edge on the Northern tip of Umatac as Fort Santo Angel started to deteriorate near the end of the Galleon era and by the 1850's, both forts were in ruins.
